Palm Springs reaches 118 degrees, excessive heat warning in effect

The Palm Springs International Airport reached 118 degrees on Tuesday, as an excessive heat warning remained in effect until 10 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

That was not a record; however. First Alert Chief Meteorologist Ginger Jeffries said 120 degrees was the record for this day in the history books.

Maximum daytime temperatures on Wednesday could hit anywhere between 115 and 121 degrees with lows hovering around 90 degrees, according to the NWS forecast.

At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, the temperature hit 118 degrees at Palm Springs International Airport.

Conditions like heat stroke or heat exhaustion are possible, said forecasters, especially if you engage in strenuous outdoor activities.

This weather could be deadly for unprepared campers or hikers, they said.
