Visiting Nurse Association distributing fans at local senior centers

Fansdelivered to theJoslyn Center in Palm Desert on Tuesday are some of the more than 200 fans now available for seniors to pick up at Joslyn andat other senior centers in the valley.

Considering how hot it has been, the fans couldn’t arrive soon enough.

“It’sgoing to help me considerably, because as you know, we’re up to a 115 or so,” said Annabelle Townson, who selected a fan for her home.

The relief from the heat is being made possible by the Visiting Nurse Association. Each summer,it distributes fans through the Nightingale Society Fan Club.

Therecent batch of fans was donated by Windermere Real Estatewhich also presented the Visiting Nurse Association with a check for a $1,000to be used to purchase additional fans.

“We know that we’re facing brutal heat right now.In fact, this could be a record high day for us, and we’re hoping this makes a difference in seniors’ lives,” said Charlie White, a managing broker forWindermire Reality.

The mission was accomplished. Seniors who picked up fansfollowing the presentation were alreadyenvisioning the cool air they generate.

“Ihave air conditioning, but a fan is a little extra. Good for the bedroom, for sleeping,” said Stan Shur.

The fans are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
