Semi strikes a guardrail and spills diesel fuel on Interstate 10

During the afternoon rain storm a tractor-trailer struck a guardrail and spilled diesel fuel on westbound Interstate 10 between Palm Springs and Cabazon today.

The accident was reported around 12:45 p.m. on westbound I-10 a mile west of Haugen Leman Way, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.

“Basically you had a big rig driver, driving in the slow lane, and for reasons unknown he lost control of his truck, swerved across the freeway, hit the guard rail, caused a partial closure of the number one lane, ” said officer Al Groover from the California Highway Patrol.

The big rig didn’t hit any vehicles and the driver wasn’t hurt, according to the California Highway Patrol.
County hazardous-materials workers were called in to clean up the fuel
spill. The big rig took out 45 feet of guardrail.

The No. 1 westbound lane was closed while the crash was investigated and crews cleaned up the mess , according to the CHP.
