Chase suspects get away but leave behind shotgun

Cathedral City Police terminate a pursuit after suspects on Interstate 10 Friday morning reach speeds over 100 miles per hour.

It all began around 9:30 this morning when an undercover Cathedral City Police officer noticed a suspicious vehicle in the Rio Vista Area of Cathedral City.

A patrol unit was dispatched to the area and attempted to pull the car over on Vista Chino when the car sped away. The driver turned North on Gene Autry Trail then entered Interstate Ten going Eastbound.

Cathedral City Police Sergeant Scott Sharpe says the car was reaching speeds on the freeway over 110 miles per hour. They decided to terminate the chase near Cook Street, and the suspects got away.

During the pursuit a caller, notified CHP that they witnessed a passenger in the car being pursued throw a long silver object out the window between Palm Drive and Date Palm. That item was later recovered by officers, and turned out to be a loaded sawed off 12 gauge sawed off shotgun.

The car is only described as a white Honda with 3 young men in the car. They have a license plate number but are not releasing that at this time while they try to track down the suspects. If you noticed anything call police or Crimestoppers at 341-stop.
