Flooded Cathedral City businesses to open for Labor Day weekend

Several Cathedral city businesses announced they were planning to be open for business over the Labor Day holiday weekend, despite a torrential rain storm.

Thursday’s downpour sent water flooding into several store fronts along East Palm Canyon Drive.

Several businesses saw flood damage from the slow moving thunderstorm that dumped a recorded .60 inches of rain in the area, and breached a nearby flood control dam.

The Cathedral City Auto Center, Consignment Corridor and other merchants along the East Palm Canyon Highway 111 corridor announced Thursday evening they planned to be open for business over the three day holiday weekend.

A statement issued by the Cathedral City Auto Center said it expected a big sales weekend.

The auto center is comprised of 14 dealerships selling 23 brands of vehicles.

The center’s statement said businesses are easily accessible from Date Palm Drive, Perez Road, Cathedral Canyon and the Mid-Valley Parkway also known as Dinah Shore Drive.

The Consignment Corridor also planned to be open over the holiday weekend. It’s a cluster of stores including Celebrity Consignments, Misty’s Consignments, Resale Therapy, Touch of Class Consignments and Victoria’s Attic.

The weekend was set for its first “Progressive Shopping” event set for Saturday. It will move ahead as planned from 6 to 11 pm.

Resale Therapy announced it would be closed Friday for clean-up. It saw water and mud flowing into the business during Thursday’s downpour. Owner, Caroldean Ross, announced the store would reopen Saturday with a sale and fashion show.

Cathedral City Public Works Crews were working throughout Thursday night and Friday morning to clear and reopen the East Palm Canyon and other access roads.
