More thunderstorms and heavy showers possilbe Tuesday

There’s a chance of thunderstorms and heavy showers in the Coachella Valley and the mountains of Riverside County Tuesday, forecasters said.

Unstable weather would be the result of residual monsoonal moisture from Monday’s wet weather in the inland valleys, mountains and deserts, according to the National Weather Service.

More than 3 inches of rain had fallen since midnight early Tuesday morning across the southern end of the Coachella valley in an area bounded by the Salton Sea communities of Oasis, Mecca and North Shore.

Rainfall totals from Monday included a trace in Palm Springs, 0.03 in Riverside, 0.28 in Lake Elsinore, 0.31 inches in Corona, 0.82 in Hemet, 0.24 in Temecula, 0.43 in Gilman Hot Springs, 0.59 in Beaumont, 0.83 in Pine Cove, 0.92 in Keenwild, 0.63 in Vista Grande and 0.83 on Toro Peak.

Tuesday’s thunderstorms and heavy showers in the mountains and deserts are most likely to occur this afternoon and early evening, according to the Weather Service.
