Homeless get a helping hand during September streak of summer heat

Homeless people in Indio received much needed supplies Friday, thanks to the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission’s “Love Van”.

The outreach wrapped up the Mission’s “90 days of Summer Relief Campaign.”

Workers handed out water, shirts, hats, shoes and sunscreen out on the streets.

As Greg Fisher told us, it’s an effort to encourage homeless people to visit the mission and get the help they need.

“Ideally we want to break the cycle of homelessness,” Fisher said. “It’s one person at a time. So you just have to touch the heart of one person to get them into the mission.”

Over the summer months, the “Love Van” helped more than 500 people in Duroville, Coachella, Indio, Mecca, Thermal, and Palm Springs.
