Heat stretches to the end of September

Triple digit heat on the last day of September — what better place to be than Knott’s Soak City in Palm Springs.

“It’s ridiculous. It’s been relentless,” Amy Gamble, who is visiting Palm Springs from Los Angeles, said.

Though this prolonged heat wave doesn’t necessarily shock some long-time desert residents, it still is something to talk about.

“Summer has definitely extended here in the desert for sure. It’s been great here at Soak City. We increased our attendance quite a bit,” the Knott’s Soak City marketing manager, Brad Oulette, said. “Past few years, it’s been hotter in September and into October, so we actually extended our weekends and went a little bit longer.”

Knott’s Soak City is open one more weekend, until October 7th.

Looking ahead to the next few days, the heat isn’t quite ready to let fall take center stage, but people say they’re ready for a new act.

“I’m ready to wear a pair of socks and a scarf. But, we’re taking advantage of it this weekend,” Gamble said.

So, bikinis will stay out until the scarves are needed.
