Stop signs installed at dangerous Thermal intersection
New stop signs have been addedat a dangerous intersection in the east valley, where a man was killed in acrash this summer.
The Riverside County transportation department installed the additional stop signs on Tuesday at the corner of Grapefruit Blvd.and 62nd Avenue in Thermal.
The new signs are for north and southbound traffic on GrapefruitBlvd.,making the intersection a four-way stop.
“It’s gonna make it safer because it’s gonna slow traffic down,” said CHP Officer Joe Zagorski.”We’re not gonna have people doing 55 miles an hour in directions on Grapefruit, whereas everyone’s got to come to a complete stop, so we’re gonna see a lot slower vehicles coming through.People are going to have to stop and make sure it’s clear.”
The county is hoping to make the intersection even safer by installing traffic lightsin the next two to threeyears when funding becomes available.
