Festival of Cultures dishes out mix of food and music
The first Festival of Cultures in Palm Springs featured tastes of a little bit of everywhere.
“Filipinos, Americans, Indonesians, people from Sri Lanka, Vietnamese, and of course your hispanic community,” Festival of Cultures chairman Marco Cazares said.
Families from Our Lady of Solitude and Our Lady of Guadalupe paired with the city of Palm Springs and local businesses to stir up a mix of family-made dishes for people to taste.
“I wouldn’t have done this if not for the festival. I don’t think I’d have the nerve to go somewhere and try food I’ve never had before,” Dina DeLuca said.
A day of diverse dishes – 26 food booths to be exact – music, arts and crafts united families. Raffle prizes such as spa getaways, wine baskets, and health treatments helped raise money in addition to food tickets — all for the youth of Palm Springs.
“We need some leadership among our youth. A lot of youth need some direction, so we figured if we put some programs directed by motivational speakers helping psychological issues for self esteem,” Cazares said.
The event aimed to help the youth and also bring people together on a beautiful Sunday.
“It’s community. We live in this country of ours that allows us to do that. If this is spread out through the rest of our communities, I think we’re all going to have a better time,” Cazares said.
