Early Voting Begins in Riverside County
Early voting started in several locations this morning, with throngs of people eager to cast their ballot showing up for a numbers of reasons.
Many people like Ann Wyles came out to just get it over with already. She said, “I’m going to get it over with. Then I can turn off all the ads. I don’t have to hear them anymore.”
Others like Marcy Jahn said this election is too important, and missing the chance to cast a ballot is unthinkable. She said, “Well, I’m early voting because you never know what might come up at the last minute, and I have to say, this is a very critical election.”
Only an hour after early voting began in the Westfield Shopping Town in Palm Desert, the line stretched around the corner. Mall management was quick to change the location of the queue to better accommodate the growing crowd.
The county set up four locations for early voting, but the location in Palm Desert is the only one in the valley. And it’s only open this weekend.
The limited possibilities to vote early frustrates some people like Roy Casillas who said, “Desert Hot Springs doesn’t have a voting place until November 6th, no early voting. And where we used to vote in the Mission Lakes Country Club, they closed it down. So I didn’t want to wait until November 6th, because then it would be really long lines.”
For those who want to vote early and can’t make it to the mall, they’ll have to go to the Riverside Registrar of Voters office.
Regardless of when and where voters cast their ballots, it’s sure everyone will encounter their fair share of headaches. Ron Clarke voted today and had this to say, “I think it was a little confusing today. I don’t understand why I had to fill out another card in addition to what I brought with me.”
If you plan on voting November 6th, make sure you know where your polling place is since it may have changed since the last election. You should also make sure to bring any required identification.
In addition, for mail-in ballots, it’s important to check the envelope for required postage, since it may need more than one stamp.
