Woman Killed In Accident Near Cabazon

A woman dies after losing control of her car on Interstate 10 Tuesday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, at approximately 9:20 AM, a 79 year old female, a resident of Alta Loma was involved in a deadly traffic collision. The victim was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Cobalt eastbound on I-10 west of Haugen Lehmann Way.

The driver was negotiating a curve in the freeway and lost control of her vehicle. She overturned in the center median, her car landing in the westbound lanes of I-10. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger, 74 year old Marlene Carlson from Alberta Canada, was the right front seat passenger. Carlson was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with minor injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision. Alcohol and drugs were not determined to be a factor in the collision. Two westbound lanes were shut down for several hours while crews cleared the wreckage causing some minor back ups.
