Sheriff Deputy on Leave Pleads Not Guilty
A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy facing a number of criminal charges, including DUI, was arraigned in Indio today.
43 year old Omar Gomez pleaded not guilty and is expected back in court on November 27th.
Gomez was arrested in Palm Springs on September 5th.
He is charged with a felony count of being under the influence, while in possession of a loaded firearm and one misdemeanor count each of driving under the influence of alcohol and methamphetamine and unlawful possession of an opium pipe or paraphernalia.
Gomez worked at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, since 2007.
He was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning and posted a $5,000 bond the next day.
Gomez is currently on leave pending an internal investigation.
