Local law enforcement, public safety personnel honored

They’re the people who keep our communities safe, and on Tuesday, law enforcement officers, firefighters, volunteers, dispatchers and border patrol agents were recognized for the work they do.

The annual Peace Officer and Public Safety Awards Luncheon was held at the Hyatt Regency in Indian Wells.

In all, 35 awards were handed out, including the Community Action Team Award.
It went to four members of the Coachella Police Department who were responsible for making hundreds of arrests last year. They recovered $40,000 in stolen property and seized more than $20,000 in illegal narcotics.

“None of us got into this job for publicity, glamor or to be recognized, but it really does, it’s a boost to everyone’s morale when you’re recognized especially by your peers. It’s just a great honor,” said Coachella Police Cpl. Paul Heredia.

The Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce played host to the event, now in its 16th year.
