Desert Events Continue Rain or Shine

There’s a lot happening this weekend around the desert and it looks like the wet weather isn’t getting in the way of some major events.
You might just want to get out those umbrellas and enjoy what the valley has to offer despite the rain, including the Southwest Arts Festival, in Indio. Glass blowers, oil painters, sculptors and ceramic artists traveled from 14 different states.
None of them anticipated the wet weather in our normally sunny desert, but for Suzi Thomas, the umbrella is the artist’s canvas.
She says, “They are waterproof and don’t fade. I’ve developed a paint just for this application so it doesn’t fade and it stays beautiful for years.”
Rain checks were handed out at the Southwest Arts Festival, to people who attended opening day and want to come back this weekend.
Other outdoor weekend events are going on as planned. On Saturday, Palm Desert Charter Middle School’s First Annual 5-K run is still set to start at 7:30 in the morning, rain or shine.
And the competition is on in Thermal, where the outdoor event “Horse Show In The Sun” will stay on schedule, Saturday and Sunday, at the HITS Desert Horse Park.
