Former Rep. Mary Bono Mack lands D.C. consulting job

Former U.S. Rep. Mary Bono Mack announced Tuesday she had accepted a consulting job with a Washington D.C.-based firm where she will work on entertainment, media and information technology policy.

The former U.S. representative was set to become a senior vice president for FaegreBD Consulting using her experience from positions on several House committees to advocate and consult for legislative, regulatory and policy issues related to entertainment, media, health policy and IT sectors.

“I’m excited to build on the groundwork already in place with FaegreBD Consulting’s national practices,” said Bono Mack. “In looking toward the next phase of my career, it was important to me to join an organization with international reach and tremendous growth potential, where I could provide value and leadership in continuing to shape public policies that impact some of our most dynamic economic sectors. FaegreBD Consulting is a great fit.”

Bono Mack served as representative of California’s 45th Congressional district from 1998 to January of 2013 when she lost a contentious reelection effort to current Rep. Raul Ruiz.

Bono Mack served as a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee during her time in the House. She was chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade and served on the Energy and Telecommunications subcommittees. In addition, Bono Mack served on the House Judiciary and Armed Services committees.

A statement from FaegreBD said Bono Mack would also use her media relations experience to help clients with media and strategic communications matters.

The FaegreBD statement said Bono Mack’s congressional experience with intellectual property rights, telecommunications and privacy would help clients by utilizing her extensive work with the Federal Communications Commission, Federal Trade Commission and Consumer Product Safety Commission on regulatory issues.

The consulting firm planned to have Bono Mack continue her focus on telecommunications by working with clients to develop thoughtful policies, “that grow the Internet economy and maximize broadband networks throughout the U.S.” the statement said.
