“I Am Not a Rock Star” screening tonight in Rancho Mirage

The Rancho Mirage Public Library will host a freescreening tonight of a documentary about classical pianist Marika Bournaki,followed by a performance by Bournaki.

The screening of the documentary, “I Am Not a Rock Star,” will beginat 7 p.m., library spokeswoman Susan Cook said.

Bournaki began studying piano at age 5 and at 9 was a soloist withOrchestre Symphonique de Montreal in a performance of Mozart’s Piano ConcertoNo. 17. She has performed internationally since then, according to her website.

“I Am Not a Rock Star” was filmed over eight years by award-winningdirector Bobby Jo Hart and follows the young pianist’s coming of age. The filmwas shot in in concert halls, hotels and airports around the world andfeatures some of her performances, Cook said.

“The film turns Ms. Bournaki’s life into a visual narrative, revealingboth the rewards and costs of a life dedicated to musical excellence,” Cooksaid.

Seating is first-come, first-served.
