Banning jail showers leave Riverside County all wet

Riverside County may spend more than a half-million dollars to repair leaky showers at a jail.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise says county supervisors were told Tuesday that the wrong sealant was used for showers when the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning was expanded about three years ago.

The showers serve about 600 inmates.

Repairs are expected to cost $568,000, which the county may try to recover from the jail’s designer or contractor. Supervisors were told that the designer was warned the sealant wouldn’t work but used it anyway.
