Woman caught with $332,000 in meth at Highway 86 checkpoint

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Indio Station arrested a woman Sunday after she tried pass through the Highway 86 checkpoint with 10 pounds of methamphetamine.

At around 8 p.m., the 43-year-old woman and her 16-year-old son reached the checkpoint and wereimmediatelymoved to a designated inspection area after a canine team deemed the vehicle suspicious.

Upon searching the 1998 Toyota Camry, agents found ten packages of methamphetamine hidden in an aftermarketcompartmentunderneath the back seat.

The meth had a combined weight of 10.4 pounds. Border Patrol estimated the value of the drugs at more than $332,000.

The woman, a citizen of Mexico with a B1/B2 Visa, was taken into custody. Her, the vehicle, and the contraband were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Agency for further investigation.
