Local CHP arrests 28 for DUI during holiday weekend
More than two-dozen people were arrested on suspicionof drunken or drug-impaired driving on freeways and roads in the Riverside areaduring Memorial Day weekend, the California Highway Patrol reported today.
A total 28 DUI arrests were made during the CHP’s “maximum enforcementperiod,” which began at 6 p.m. Friday and concluded at 11:59 p.m. Monday.During the 2012 Memorial Day weekend MEP, 35 people were busted for DUI.
A total 235 traffic citations were issued between Friday and Mondaynights — for everything from speeding to failure to wear a seatbelt, accordingto the CHP’s Riverside office. Last year, 580 tickets were issued.
A total of 45 traffic collisions — one of them fatal — were reportedor investigated on county roads and highways in the metropolitan area,according to the CHP.
