Palm Springs collecting food for FIND Food Bank throughout September

The city of Palm Springs will collect items for alocal food bank throughout September, which is Hunger Awareness Month in theCoachella Valley.

Starting today, people can bring canned food for FIND Food Bank to thelobby of Palm Springs City Hall, 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, and the PalmSprings Public Library, 300 S. Sunrise Way, city spokeswoman Amy Blaisdellsaid.

FIND will also bring its new mobile food pantry to the second annualMayor’s Healthy Planet, Healthy You Race and Wellness Festival on Jan. 11 inRuth Hardy Park, Blaisdell said.

“We believe it is vital for all desert cities to join together in acommitted coalition to make the Coachella Valley a hunger-free zone,” said FINDCEO Lisa Houston.

FIND distributes food to more than 80,000 people per month in theCoachella Valley via more than 100 community organizations, including soupkitchens, food pantries, shelters, after-school programs and senior centers.
