Man arrested after fleeing scene of Palm Springs crash, returning

A man was arrested yesterday after returning to the scene of an accident that seriously injuried a 1-year-old boy.

The accident happened at the intersection of S Gene Autry Trail and Dinah Shore at around 8:30 p.m. A man driving a silver 2012 Fiat 500 collided with a 1987 Acura Legend as both cars were travelling through the intersection. Both cars sustained major damage.

Immediatelyfollowing the crash, the man driving the Fiat fled the scene on foot.

The crash caused the 1-year-old boy, who was a in a child seat, to be ejected from the Acura. The child was taken to a local hospital where he was in serious but stable condition. The driver of the Acura was treated for minor injuries.

About an hour and a half after the accident, the driver of the Fiat returned to the scene. He was identified as Skyler Chad Siva. Siva was treated for minor injuries and later arrested and charged with a hit-and-run felony.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and it is unknown if alcohol or drug impairment were a factor. The intersection was closed for several hours.
