Congressman Ruiz voted to delay Affordable Care Act

Rep. Raul Ruiz says he wants a “clean bill” as he calls it, to end the government shutdown.

At the same time, he was just one of 9 democrats who voted in favor of an amendment Monday night that would have delayed the mandate to buy insurance under the Affordable Care Act for one year.

The amendment was defeated in the Senate, leading to the government shutdown.

Ruiz says, “It’s just unconscionable that house leadership has pushed our country to a government shutdown and put in danger the economic recovery and our commitments to our seniors, troops and veterans.”

Ruiz’s vote was also in favor of a plan to force members of Congress into the Affordable Care Act.

“I believe that all members of Congress should participate in the same exchanges as all hard working Americans and I voted for that position,” Ruiz said.

Rep. Ruiz’s local office is staying open, with extended hours during the government shutdown.
