Bicyclist hit on busy La Quinta road suffers major injuries

A bicyclist has major injuries after getting hit by a car Thursday morning, according to La Quinta Police.

Around 6:30 a.m. on Avenue 48 and Adams, a male bicyclist heading eastbound collided with a silver SUV. The driver, who was dropping off a girl at school, stopped and cooperated with police.

Preliminary investigation shows that the bicyclist may have improperly cut into traffic, police say. The SUV had a broken window and windshield as a result of the collision.

The man was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries. His condition is not known at this time.

Police say traffic at the intersection heading east on Ave. 48 is expected to be closed until at least 11 a.m.
