CHP searches for truck driver who caused crash on I-10
CHP is looking for the driver of a semi truck who caused a woman to roll her car on I-10 Thursday afternoon.
According to Trooper Mike Radford with the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened west of Hayfield Road at 1:30 p.m. and caused westbound lanes of I-10 to close for about 35 minutes.
Radford said 32-year-old Rebecca Irwin of Los Angeles was driving a Scion in the left lane of eastbound I-10 when the driver of a tractor-trailer, who was in the right lane, began to move into her lane. When the woman adjusted to the left to avoid an accident, she lost control of the car and rolled into westbound traffic.
She ended up hitting a Dodge Caravan head on that was driven by John Carreon, 35, of Mesa, Arizona.
Radford said both drivers had their seat belt on but were airlifted to nearby hospitals with serious injuries. There were four passengers in the Caravan who weren’t injured in the crash.
The driver of the tractor-trailer fled the scene after the traffic collision, failing to provide information after being involved in a crash, which is legally required in any accident, according to Radford.
He said alcohol didn’t appear to play a role in the crash.
Authorities are continuing to search for the driver of the semi truck who is facing felony hit and run charges.
