THURSDAY UPDATE: Indian Canyon still closed in Palm Springs

Indian Canyon Drive remained closed to traffic and was blocked with barricades Thursday morning because of sand drifts.

Gene Autry Trail reopened to traffic Thursday morning.

Vista Chino was also open to traffic after a wind storm that blew sand into the air and created poor visibility on roadways throughout the desert.

Palm Springs police had closed Gene Autry Trail at the Whitewater wash in Palm Springs Wednesday due to windy conditions that created poor visibility for drivers. The road was closed around 2:30 p.m.

Indian Canyon Drive was also closed between the city and Interstate 10.

It had been shut down at the wash since Tuesday night.

Vista Chino remained open Thursday morning, according to CHP.

Driving conditions along Interstate 10 were dangerous as well Wednesday afternoon. Blowing sand and dust created brown-out conditions with low visiblity.

CHP officers ran round robins, escorting traffic, to set a slower pace for vehicles on the interstate.
