Coachella teen arrested on murder charges

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection to a deadly shooting that took place during a party in Coachella on Saturday, May 17.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, at 1:05 a.m., officers from the Coachella Police Department responded to the 84000 block of Pedro Drive where several juveniles were fighting and shots were heard in the area.

When police arrived, they found 16-year-old Rolando Rojas Gonzalez dead from a gunshot wound. A woman and two other men were also shot; they were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives with the Central Homicide Unit arrested a 16-year-old boy from Coachella in connection to the shooting.

Officers said he was booked into the Indio Juvenile Hall on murder charges.
