CVUSD approves teacher salary increase

Teachers with the Coachella Valley Teachers Association are getting a pay raise.

The Coachella Valley Unified School District has approved a 5 percent pay increase, retro-active to May 1.

The school board says it believes that the best way to improve education and retain employees is to ensure that they can maintain a healthy and reasonable standard of living.

The board says the increase is comparable or better than what many school districts in Riverside County are offering.

The salary increase follows the school board voting to layoff at least 20 teachers due to budget constraints.
