Man arrested after jumping out of car he was driving

A suspected drunken driver jumped out of his moving vehicle, which crashed into a parked car in La Quinta, and he was then arrested, a sergeant said Saturday.

Sheriff’s deputies received a call at 5:53 p.m. Friday about a hit and run crash reported at the 50000 block of Washington Street.

The suspect, Joshua Espinoza Martinez, 22, of Indio, had allegedly bailed out of his vehicle with the engine running and the gear engaged, and let it drive itself into the parked car, Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Frederick said.

Martinez then got into a fight with his spouse and ran away, deputies said. He was found and arrested, Frederick said.

Martinez was booked for suspicion of several misdemeanor drunken driving violations and felony infliction of corporal injury on a spouse. He remained jailed today in lieu of $50,000 bail, records showed.
