Roads reopen after Palm Springs transformer fire, power outage

Roads are back open this weekend after a transformer blew outside the Desert Sun Publishing Company, according to Palm Springs police. The business is located across the street from the Palm Springs Air Museum.

Police say the fire started because of the transformer overheated.

1,290 customers were without power. The Palm Springs Fire Department and utility crews with Southern California Edison are on scene.

Northbound lanes of Gene Autry Trail between Ramon Road and E. Tachevah Drive were closed for several hours and reopened at 4p.m.
