Cathedral City Councilman Sam Toles will resign in August

Cathedral City Councilman Sam Toles announced he will resign his seat in mid August, according to Cathedral City Mayor Kathy DeRosa.

Toles was elected in 2010 but moved to New York to take a new job earlier this year. The city clerk received his letter of resignation on Thursday and his last day will be August 13.

He’s been traveling back and forth between two homes and expects the transition to be over in August, Toles said in the letter. He also said that he would like the council to appoint his mother Carol Lang to fill the remainder of his term.

According to DeRosa, a decision on how to fill his seat, if they decide to, will be made after he officially resigns. The seat is up in the November Election.

The city has 60 days to decide what to do with his position until then.

DeRosa also said she isn’t seeking re-election, and that Councilman Chuck Vasquez is also up for re-election in November.

Vasquez is running amidst accusations he misappropriated more than $2,000 in city funds.
