Officers detain person of interest in Indio homicide investigation

On Thursday morning, several search warrants were served in Indio and Thousand Palms regarding a homicide that occurred in Indio on June 16.

According to a release from the Indio Police Department, a person of interest was detained in the early morning investigation into the shooting death of 20-year-old Juan Carlos Hernandez.

Hernandez was killed on June 16 when he was gunned down in the Lancer Gate neighborhood near Monroe Street and Miles Avenuelast Thursday.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 spoke to the sister of Hernandez on Wednesday. She said her brother was sitting in his car, pulled over on the side of the road when the shooting happened.

One of their cousins was in the car at the time of the shooting and didn’t see who pulled the trigger.

His sister said, “They heard a voice, a deep voice, saying what are you guys doing here?”

She describes her brother as a happy person who didn’t want to bother anyone.
