Married couple killed in wreck east of Palm Springs

A married couple in their 70s, missing since Monday morning, died in a vehicle accident in the desert east of Palm Springs.

The accident occurred at Chiriaco Summit, on Interstate 10, around 12.20 p.m. Tuesday, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said.

An online incident report on the Riverside County website said the occupants suffered critical injuries and were transported to a hospital.

Jose Bracero, 73, and his wife Consuelo, 75, later died, ABC7 reported, quoting a family member.

Both suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Tina Schrader.

Schrader said the couple left their home in the 22000 block of Kinard Avenue in Carson around 2:30 p.m. Monday.
