2nd suspect arrested in deadly shooting near Yucca Park

Police have arrested a second suspect in connection to the deadly shooting of 37-year-old Douglas Yanez Jr. on May 28 in the area of Kenner Street and Yucca Lane in Indio.

Steven Rapan, 23, was taken into custody July 3 around 12 p.m. at 46-725 Clinton Street, according to the Indio Police Department.

Officers had been searching for Rapan since June 11 after they arrested the original suspect in the shooting, 21-year-old Gary Steven Griffin Ramirez.

Ramirez was spotted near America’s Tire in Indio off Highway 111.

Ramirez was initially detained as a person of interest but was later charged with murder. Following his arrest, police issued a felony arrest warrant for Rapan.

Police documents listed Rapan as a known ‘SMG’ North Indio gang member.

Both Ramirez and Rapan were booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio for homicide.

The victim, Douglas Yanez Jr., was found just after 2:30 a.m. on May 28 in the area of Kenner Street and Yucca Lane. He was suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police said Yanez Jr. was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center but later died from his injuries.
