Mother of missing pregnant 29 Palms woman pleads for help

A Twentynine Palms woman is still missing and her family is looking for help to find her. Nineteen year-old Erin Corwin is white, 5-foot-2 and about 120 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. She has no history of medical or psychological issues, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.

“I mean my gut was just tore up, just tore up,” said Lore Heavilin, Corwin’s mother. “And you feel like you’re walking in a nightmare.”

The nightmare started on Sunday for Heavilin. That’s when she got the call that her pregnant daughter was missing. Sheriff’s deputies says Corwin was last seen leaving her home at the Twentynine Palms Marine base where she lives Saturday morning at 7 AM.

Her husband, marine corporal Jonathan Wayne Corwin reporter her missing on Sunday. Heavilin immediately made the trip from near Knoxville, Tennessee to the high desert, a trip she already planned to celebrate Erin’s 20th birthday on July 15.

“We were going to go to the San Diego Zoo and Sea World,” said Heavilin. “And she was so excited about that upcoming trip.”

Instead, Heavilin and her husband can only wait for any news about their daughter’s whereabouts. Heavilin says the day she went missing, Erin was heading to Joshua Tree National Park to look for places for the two to take photos during her visit.

On Monday, San Bernardino sheriff’s deputies found Erin’s car at an undisclosed location in Twentynine Palms. The sheriff’s department has not ruled out foul play. Meanwhile, about 30 search and rescue trained volunteers continue to look for Erin in some remote and dangerous areas.

“Joshua Tree National Park, it’s very rocky, really dangerous areas,” said Detective Marcel Silva from the sheriff’s department. “We also have the extreme heat of the desert, wide open desert areas that we’ve also checked.”

The sheriff’s department does not want anyone who’s untrained to help search. Instead investigators and Erin’s mother are pleading for anyone with information that could help find her to come forward.

“Just tell them that insignificant detail, because it might be the piece that fills in the puzzle,” said Heavilin.

If you have any information about Corwin’s whereabouts, contact investigators at 909-387-3589. Tipsters wishing to remain anonymous may also call the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (782-7463) or leave information at www.wetip.com.

Corwin’s friends and family also started a Facebook page called “Locate Erin.”
