4.6 Earthquake in Big Bear shakes valley

Two earthquakes shook the Big Bear area around 10 a.m. Saturday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The first quake, at 9:59 a.m. was a 4.6 magnitude. A minute later, a 3.4 quake struck followed by a series of smaller aftershocks

“There was definitely a lot of violent shaking,” said Laura Segna of Los Angeles.

Segna is spending the holiday weekend at Big Bear lake with a group of friends and called the 15-second rattle terrifying.

“We were making breakfast, and all of a sudden I felt the floor underneath us shake, we went to a lot of doorways, we just hunkered down,” Segna said. “We had this chandelier made of antlers that was shaking violently, it was crazy.”

News Channel 3 viewers reported feeling the jolt all over the Coachella Valley.

“We saw the windows shaking and the chandeliers shaking and we both stopped dead in our tracks,” said Jordana Torrisi. “It was a little scary!”

“You couldn’t tell if it was coming from far or near and everybody looked around like, yes that’s what I thought it was,” said Lucinda Robson.

“It was decent size I guess, it was just kind of shaky,” said Alana Machado.

And while some take the shakes in stride:

“We’re from LA, we don’t even move if it’s less than a 5.0,” said one visitor.

Others look at it as a warning.

“It’s definitely a reminder,” said Al Greenwalt.

A reminder we live in earthquake country and need to be ready at any time for the next big quake.
