Gas prices lower in Southland for Labor Day

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County was unchanged Monday, remaining at $3.835, the lowest for a Labor Day since 2010.

The average price has been unchanged three times in six days following a 50-day streak of decreases and is 1.6 cents less than one week ago, 14.4 cents lower than one month ago and 2.6 cents below what it was one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The Labor Day price was $3.864 in 2013; a Labor Day record $4.713 in 2012 which analysts attributed to the Aug. 6, 2012, fire at the Chevron refinery in Richmond, which reduced its refining capacity and the gasoline supply; $3.958 in 2011, which then was a record; and $3.015 in 2010.

The Orange County average price was also unchanged, remaining at $3.803, the lowest for a Labor Day since 2010. It is 1.5 cents less than one week ago, 14.3 cents lower than one month ago and 2.9 cents below what it was one year ago.

The Orange County Labor Day price was $3.837 in 2013; $4.155 on Labor Day 2012 and $3.939 in 2011, both records; and $3.011 in 2010.
