15 year old arrested for burglarizing homes in Indio

The Indio Police Department arrested a 15 year old boy Tuesday morning after he allegedly burglarized a home.

Officers were initially called to the 47-600 block of Corta Barbato after someone reported a suspicious person in the area at about 10 a.m. Police found several window screens that had been tampered with at a home, but it didn’t appear that anyone had entered the residence.

About 45 minutes later, a burglary alarm sounded at a home in the 82-300 block of Calico Avenue. Officers determined someone had in fact broke into the home and they began searching the area for possible suspects, according to the release.

The Indio Police Department used a K-9 team and was able to track down the suspect in the 82-400 block of Calico Avenue. The investigation revealed that the teen may have been involved in two additional burglaries in the 47-500 block of Zoila Street, the suspicious person call on Corta Barbato, and another report of a suspicious person in the area of Buckskin Court and Dry Creek Way around 9:56 a.m., officers said in the release.

All of the burglary locations are within a 1/4 mile radius.

The suspect, a 15 year old Hispanic boy, was booked into the Riverside County Juvenile Hall in Indio on charges of burglary, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, and assault on a police service dog. The teen also had a no bail, robbery arrest warrant, police said.

The suspect was taken to John F. Kennedy Hospital in Indio for treatment of minor injuries before being transported to juvenile hall.

No officers were hurt in the incident, including the Indio Police Department’s K-9.

KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 were contacted by multiple viewers during Tuesday’s search for the suspect because of the heavy police presence in Indio and a helicopter circling the area.
