2 local hospitals recognized as leaders in LGBT patient care
For the second consecutive year, Eisenhower Medical Center has been recognized as a leader in LGBT healthcare equality in the Healthcare Equality Index.
Both Eisenhower and Desert Regional Medical Center were selected among 426 health care facilities nationwide.
Facilities awarded this title meet key criteria for equitable care, including non-discrimination policies for LGBT patients and employees, a guarantee of equal visitation for same-sex partners and parents, and LGBT health education for key staff members.
The Healthcare Equality Index is an annual survey conducted by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC), the educational arm of the country’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender organization.
Health officials with Eisenhower Medical Center said their facility earned top marks for its commitment to equitable, inclusive care for LGBT patients and their families, who can face significant challenges in securing adequate health care.
“Our mission is to provide health care as it should be,” said Eisenhower’s Executive Vice President and CEO Martin Massiello. “To be recognized as a leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality for a second consecutive year means we are upholding that commitment not only to our patients and staff, but also to the LGBT community throughout the Coachella Valley.”
