Suspect backs stolen vehicle into police car

A suspect backed a stolen vehicle into an Indio police car Tuesday afternoon while trying to elude officers.

Indio Police Sergeant Dan Marshall said the incident happened at about 12:30 p.m. while officers were helping to recover the stolen car near Highway 111 and Arabia Street.

The officer wasn’t hurt in the collision.

The suspect, who hasn’t been identified yet, was captured a bit later after ditching the car on Indio Boulevard near Fargo Street and York Park, Marshall said.

The suspect was taken into custody on charges of assault on a peace officer and for using a car as a weapon, according to the Indio Police Department.
