Coachella man identified after deadly shooting
A 23-year-old man was killed in a shooting Sunday night in Coachella and two Palm Desert teenagers have been arrested in connection. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the shooting victim as Fabian Martinez.
Martinez died just after 10 p.m. in the 48000 block of Camino Las Brisas. The neighborhood is located behind Walmart on Avenue 48 on the Coachella side of the Jackson divide.
According to Sgt. Jeff Buompensiero, officers found Martinez dead in the road when they arrived to the scene. “The victim sustained at least one gunshot injury that caused death,” Buompensiero said.
The victim’s family told News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 he was gunned down after he’d gotten into a fight with his ex-girlfriend.
Detectives with the Riverside County sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit said they arrested Carlos Jay Martinez, 19, and Noel Hernandez, 18 on Monday night along Gerald Ford Drive in Palm Desert.
Both suspects were booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio and remained in custody Tuesday morning in lieu of a million dollars bail. Both were scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning to face felony murder charges
