Cupcake Challenge promises more than 50 options for sweets lovers

When it comes to cupcakes, anything is possible.

“Sometimes people experiment with lets say a spice you’d normally have in spaghetti into your cupcakes. It’s sweet but can be savory too,” Over the Rainbow Cupcakes owner Roman Blas said.

At the Third Annual Cupcake Challenge Sunday at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, you get to taste more than 50 cupcakes made by amateurs and professionals. Blas competed the first year and took first place. He’s back now as a celebrity judge, alongside our sister station’s News Channel 3’s John White and others.

“It’s exciting where amateur and professional bakers get together,” Blas said. “They do sweet and savory, you can mix ingredient. Be fun and creative.

A total of 52 bakers to be exact, and you get to taste all their cupcakes.

In honor of the upcoming event, I got a special treat and a tutorial.

“We’ve created a Bianca Rae cupcake,” Blas said.

The sweetest part of this Sunday’s challenge – 100 percent of the proceeds goes to Well In the Desert which provides hot meals and assistance for those in need.

Keep an open mind and open taste buds this Sunday from 1-4. With cupcakes, surprises are common. Who knew i’d get one named after me!
