Missing Cathedral City man back home safe

A Cathedral City man is back home after being declared missing Thursday night by local police.

The Cathedral City police department says 74-year-old Allen Scott Dean returned to his home at 9:30 Saturday morning.

They were notified when his neighbor called saying his car was at his home.

Officers arrived at the home and contacted Dean. He appeared to be healthy, police say, but had some sun exposure around his face and neck area. Dean was unable to provide any details to where he had been.

Police say because Dean was unable to provide any details to his whereabouts and the time he was missing, he was taken to a local hospital for evaluation as a precautionary measure.

An ATM scan found Dean had last used his card at a gas station in Blythe.

The Cathedral City Police Department thanks the public for their assistance in finding the man, who is said to be suffering from dementia.
