Flooding causes congestion on roads and headaches for golfers

With some of the major roads closed around the Whitewater Wash the alternate routes were bumper to bumper at times today.

Road closures are making it hard to get in or out of Palm Springs.

Gene Autry Trail, Vista Chino, and Indian Canyon Drive are closed through the Whitewater Wash.

Motorists can were backed up on Ramon Road, Highway 111 or Dinah Shore Drive as alternate routes to travel in and out of Palm Springs.

“This is fascinating to watch, but I know how much damage it can do so it’s a little scary,” says Nancy Hall who watched the flood of water travel down the wash in Cathedral City.

Many golfers in the area were not able to put in a full 18 holes with the wash cutting some golf courses in half.

“We have to stick to this side. We can’t get to the other side, but that’s fine we can do this 9 holes twice,” says golfer Anita Panz.

“We are a 36 hole facility we only have at this time 9 holes open,” says Mario Aguiar, the Gold Superintendent with Cimarron Gold Club in Cathedral City. “As soon as the water stops it’ll be business as usual we’ll open the 36 holes once the water stops,” says Aguiar.
