Lawsuit: Police seeking suspect raids wrong home

A lawsuit claims a 2-year-old boy was injured by shrapnel after Oxnard police looking for gang members raided the wrong home.

The Ventura County Star reported (http://bit.ly/1z8POXO) Saturday the lawsuit filed in county Superior Court seeks unspecified damages for negligence, assault, false imprisonment and emotional distress.

The lawsuit says police and FBI agents broke the front windows and sent three smoke bombs into the condominium of Jose and Paulina Salinas before dawn on April 16, before crashing through the door.

The couple’s three children were at home.

Family attorney Ron Bamieh says authorities were looking for a suspect who lived in the condominium before the Salinas family moved there.

Oxnard Police Chief Jeri Williams tells the newspaper the parents were not detained in what she calls an “unfortunate incident.”
