Fire Destroys Palm Springs Restaurant

A fire broke out around 12:30 this afternoon, gutting Bernie’s Supper Club on East Palm Canyon Drive. Two employees working inside the restaurant called 911 when they noticed smoke coming from the dining area. By the time fire crews arrived on scene, the restaurant was fully engulfed.

“I said call the fire department and leave the building,” said co-owner Geoff McIntosh. “But by the time the fire department got here, the building was engulfed in flames.”

West Palm Canyon was shut down as fire crews mopped up and investigated the fire. The road reopened around 3:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. 25 employees are out of work until management can rebuild the restaurant. The owners of the restaurant say they were expecting around 160 guests tonight for Christmas dinner.

“We’ll be back,” said McIntosh. “I don’t know how long it’ll take but we’ll be back. And it’ll be better.”

Officials from Bernie’s Supper Club say they think the cause may have been electrical, but a formal investigation is underway.
