2 people injured in early morning accident on I-10

An early morning accident on I-10 sent two people to the hospital, and crews cleaning up used kitchen grease for hours.

The California Highway Patrol says the driver of an F-350 pick-up truck lost control and overturned in the Westbound lanes of Interstate 10 near the Whitewater cut-off around 5:30 Wednesday morning. The truck was carrying 100 gallons of grease.

The driver and his passenger were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Two right lanes of the freeway were closed for several hours as crews cleaned up spilled used kitchen grease that the truck spilled during the accident.

California Highway Patrol says the spill was cleaned up around noon, and all lanes opened shortly after that. After the initial rollover accident 3 other passenger vehicles were involved in a minor non-injury crash.

C.H.P Officers on scene said alcohol and or drugs have been ruled out as contributing factors in the collisions. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
