New information suggests LAPD caught in rival gang crossfire

Prosecutors say an incident in which Los Angeles police officers came under fire last weekend was a gang attack on rivals just as the patrol car drove into the area.

The district attorney’s office on Tuesday charged an 18-year-old man who was arrested after the gunfire Sunday night.

Christopher Taylor is charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle, assault on a peace officer and other crimes. The complaint includes gang allegations.

Following a gunman’s killing of two New York City police officers, there was concern that the Los Angeles officers were targeted.

Prosecutors allege, however, that Taylor and another person opened fire on rival gang members in a car, which sped away just as the LAPD car drove up and was fired upon.

Taylor will be arraigned Friday.
