Man in critical condition after felony battery in Thousand Palms

A man is recovering at the hospital after getting into a physical altercation with a 19-year-old man in Thousand Palms Monday afternoon.

Deputies with the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station said the incident happened in the 73000 block of Black Eagle Drive around 3 p.m. They found a man down in the street suffering from major head injuries.

After investigating, deputies identified the suspect as Daniel Martinez of Thousand Palms. They found him in the 32000 block of Wells Fargo Road. Martinez was taken into custody and booked into the Indio Jail for felony battery causing great bodily injury, according to the sheriff’s release.

Deputies said the victim was taken to the hospital with major head injuries where he remains in stable but critical condition. It’s unclear at this time if a weapon was used during the altercation.
