Grapefruit Boulevard shut down after truck jackknifes

A truck jackknifed in Coachella Thursday afternoon and began leaking diesel fuel when its rear trailer came unhinged.

Authorities were called to the accident around 12:50 p.m.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 arrived to the scene shortly after. Grapefruit Boulevard was shut down between Avenue 54 and Wallace Road while Hazmat crews worked to clear the spill.

Traffic was being diverted in the area.

Deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said the driver of the truck wasn’t hurt and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
